MIEKA MAKEOVER
Spring has sprung and Mieka is looking better than ever after a salon makeover. Yes, even this girl recognised she needed to update her look! After working round the clock for a full week renovations are now complete. The new décor features cream tonings and new flooring to give the salon a more modern, fresher feel whilst still retaining the original character of the building.
But there is more to us than just aesthetics! The updates provide clients with an even better in salon experience including a dedicated lounge area. Sit back, relax and enjoy a coffee from our fabulous coffee machine. The basin area is now separate from the rest of the salon to make your shampoo, massage and treatments even more relaxing.
SPRING/SUMMER TRENDS
Is it time you updated your new look?
Pure, natural beauty is the essence of Spring/Summer hair fashions. Curls and multi-textures are the dominant trends coming through this season for women. Volume and softness in curls allow for more movement and seemingly effortless glamorous hair whilst shorter lengths are enhanced with glossy colours to emphasise the strong, sleek classic shapes. Longer fringes prevail and frame the eyes for an alluring effect.
Colour trends are influenced by nature too. Earthy browns show a hint of mystery with subtle influences of Iron Greys and Rustic Auburns whilst dazzling Blondes are lighter and brighter with jewel like colours of Tourmaline Pinks and Citrine Golds.
Mens hair trends are also reflecting similar colour tones particularly the Iron Greys with muddy browns. Longer lengths in the fringe area are the feature in shorter cropped styles. Also lots of scruffy texture and waves give an easy care beach look.
SUMMER HAIR CARE
Whilst it is great to see the sun shining after our long, cold winter, you do need to pay special attention to your hair during the lazy, hazy days of summer. Sun, humidity, saltwater and chlorine can damage your hair and result in dry, drab, brittle, frizzy hair and split ends.
Here are some tips for to ensure healthy, shiny summer locks:
Sunscreen
Just like your skin, your hair and scalp can suffer from sunburn if not protected. We recommend you use hair products with SPF protection that block UV rays such as Kerastase’s Soleil range.
The Soleil range is formulated to treat, repair and protect hair from the ravages of summer with the technology in the collection including Filtre Photo Defense, pro vitamin B5, UV filters, ceramides, vitamin E and cationic derivatives. These products can be used all year round as they provide protection from environmental, chemical and mechanical aggressions such as heating, wind, and styling equipment.

Be water wise
Wet your hair with tap water and using a wide tooth comb, comb through a leave-in conditioner or treatment from roots to ends before you go to the beach or pool so that chlorine or salt water can’t permeate the hair. Always use an anti-chlorine shampoo after swimming such as Redken’s Hair Cleansing Cream.
Give your hair a holiday too
When you are on holidays, take a break from blowdrying and straightening your hair. Pull back your hair in a pony tail or loose bun or braid your hair when wet and allow to air dry into sultry waves. Curls are the hottest new trend for 2009.
Treatments

Get rid of the dead ends
Be religious about your haircuts and trims to rid yourself of dead ends every 5-6 weeks.

MIEKA TEAM NEWS
Our lovely Salon Manager and Senior Colourist, Sam has strengthened her ties with Mieka. She enjoys working at Mieka so much she has become a partner!
We would also like to welcome Stephen, our new Master Stylist. Stephen trained in the UK and has over 17 years of experience. Tracey and Stephen have had the pleasure of working along side each other at industry educational seminars.
GOLD GOLD GOLD FOR TRACEY
Beijing may have been the centre for a big sporting event but it was all gold, gold, gold for Tracey Hughes when she wowed Asian hairdressers in a sell out roadshow in Hong Kong and Macau recently. Over 600 hairdressers turned out to see Tracey’s education seminars and from all reports they have still not fully recovered from the excitement created by Tracey.
